MAYOR'S YOUTH EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM
The Mayor's Youth Employment Program (MYEP) provides summer internship opportunities and career preparation to Butler High School students (internships are available for Junior and Seniors). Qualified students will participate in a full-day career readiness training that will prepare them to successfully obtain the proper skill to become certified in work readiness and be prepared for any future internship or job opportunities. Eligible Juniors and Seniors may be chosen to participate in a summer internship with an MYEP host employer. The following bullets detail elements of MYEP internships:

- Internships are generally eight (8) weeks in duration (Internships are scheduled to start June 18-August 10, 2018).
- Students work 20 hours per week, at a minimum rate of $8.00 (or more depending on placement) per hour.
- Student interns are monitored closely throughout the summer by the MYEP staff and referral partner liaisons.
- In some cases, student interns are able to continue work with the host employer through the school year.

PROGRAM INTEREST FORM
MYEP participants are motivated high school students who are recommended to the program by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) Career Development Coordinators (CDCs). Students must complete this interest form in order to be eligible for the career-readiness training and/or the paid summer internship. Must be 16 prior to January 23 to complete this interest form.
After training, if selected as an Intern Candidate:

- Complete brief application online (link will be given with you interview invitation).
- Complete a MYEP intern interview at Butler High School in the Center Center.
- Successfully pass a drug screening and background check.
- Attend the Charlotte Career Discovery Day event or alternate MYEP sponsored event.
- As a participant in MYEP, students will receive job mentoring, coaching and valuable hands-on experience with one of our business partners.
APPLICATION & SELECTION PROCESS
1. Review Program Eligibility & Requirements section of this webpage. Reviewing this information is very important in helping to determine whether MYEP is a good option for you. Think carefully about how you will manage your commitment to work 20 hours per week during the summer of 2018.
2. Complete the MYEP Interest Form. If you have questions please see Ms. Boeche.
3. Selected students will complete a MYEP Orientation. This will cover the training date expectations, benefits of the program, as well as ALL application components. Students will be invited to the orientation (not open for all students).
4. Selected students will be asked to complete required documents prior to training. More information regarding these documents will be given during the MYEP information session (date TBD).
5. Applicants will complete a one-day training at Butler High School. Training dates are scheduled for January 24 and 25th (you will be assigned one of these two days for your training).
6. Selected students will be invited to complete an interview for a PAID internship in their area of interest. An application is required to be completed prior to your scheduled interview. Applications due January 31. Students will be given a link to complete this brief application.
7. Applicants will be notified of potential internship eligibility shortly after their interview. Interviews are scheduled for February 2 and 5.
