CAREER & COLLEGE PROMISE PROGRAM

Career & College Promise (“CCP”) is North Carolina’s dual enrollment program for high school students. This program allows eligible NC high school students to dual-enroll in college classes at North Carolina community colleges while remaining at their assigned high school. Students who successfully complete college courses can earn college credit that can transfer to other post-secondary institutions after graduation or receive certification in several career pathways. Career & College Promise affords Butler students the option to pursue dual-enrollment classes at Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) and choose from the following two options:

Career & College Promise affords Butler students the option to pursue dual-enrollment classes at Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) and choose from the following two options:
- College Transfer - Designed for students planning to continue their educational career beyond high school to eventually achieve an Associate's or Bachelor's degree at a community college or 4 year university. To see how your courses from CPCC may transfer to YOUR 4-year college click here. NOTE: Not all courses will transfer to ALL college and universities, make sure you research the schools of interest to verify acceptance of the transfer credits.
- Career & Technical Education - Allows students to begin a certification or diploma program in a particular technical field or career area. This pathway can be used to secure a job directly out of high school, explore a career interests, or allow you to boost your resume with a certification or diploma in your field of interest.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
To participate in the CPCC Career and College Promise (CCP) program at Butler High School applicants must:
College Transfer Pathways Only:
- Be a rising Junior or Senior and on track for graduation
- Hold a minimum 3.0 weighted GPA (Required for College Transfer Pathway; Recommended for Career & Technical Pathway)
- Be able to provide own transportation to CPCC campus location
- Maintain a "C" average CPCC grade point average while enrolled at CPCC
College Transfer Pathways Only:
- Demonstrate college readiness by achieving the required scores on a single test or by combining test scores in the areas of English, Reading and Mathematics from any of the approved assessments below:
- Students wishing to take the College Transfer Pathway but do not have the test scores to deem them eligible, may enter as a "Provisional Status" student. Provisional students must meet the following requirements:
- Hold a minimum 3.5 weighted GPA
- Complete Math III or higher with a C or better
- Complete 2 years of high school English with a C or better
NOTE: Provisional status students can only register for specific college courses: college mathematics (MAT 143, 152, 171) and college English (ENG 111), once they demonstrate proficiency in their college courses (a C or better) then the student is eligible to move forward with additional courses in their chosen College Transfer Pathway.
NOTE: Be aware that David W. Butler High School can use discretion on the program requirements. Also, students who fall below the 3.0 required CMS GPA for the college transfer pathway can be removed from the program. In addition, student that do not maintain a 2.0 GPA at CPCC will be disqualified from the program.
APPLICATION PROCESS
Important Note: Registration for CPCC’s Career and College Promise Program is a process with specific and necessary steps. Failure to complete any of the steps below will result in exclusion from the Career & College Promise Program. You are applying to college through this process and will be held accountable for all necessary steps. Read the following information carefully.

Step 1: Complete the CCP online application. The link to the left will require you to create a CFNC account. NOTE: Do not use your CMS email address to create your account. Once your application has been processed you will receive an admissions letter by email from [email protected]. This letter will include your CPCC Student ID Number (You will need this number when creating your CPCC login and to complete the Butler CCP Application). If you do not receive an email with your Student ID within 24-48 hours after submission, please check your junk or spam email folder. If it is not there, contact: [email protected].
Step 2: Complete the Butler CCP Application. You must have your CPCC student ID before you can begin this step. DO NOT PRINT APPLICATION FIRST, please complete the application in Microsoft Word and type directly onto the document. If you plan to enroll in both the summer and fall semesters, please complete and return both applications below.

Once complete, print and sign the hard copy and turn into Ms. Boeche in the career center. If I do not have the hard copy application signed by you, your parent/guardian, and your counselor by the deadline, you will not be able to register on time. (College Transfer Pathway Students ONLY): Proof of your eligible test scores must be stapled to your Butler CCP application. You may use a combination of scores to meet eligibility requirements. Students who do not meet the testing requirements may also enter as a provisional student (See Ms. Bo for more info).
Step 3: Create your CPCC Login. After you complete the Online CCP Application you will receive your CPCC student ID #, you will use this number to create your CPCC login. NOTE: YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO REGISTER WITHOUT CREATING A CPCC LOGIN. Please wait 24 hours to attempt to log into your CPCC account, if you do not it will prompt you to reset your password and you will have to wait an additional 24 hours.
Step 4: Activate your CPCC E-mail Address. CPCC provides an official student email account to every student. Your CPCC Login/Username is also your CPCC Email. This CPCC email is the college's official means of communicating with students, the cashiering office, instructors, advisors, and for campus alerts. You should check your CPCC student email every day. NOTE: Your professors will only respond to emails sent from the CPCC email address for security reasons, so you MUST check and utilize this email address.
Step 5: Complete the mandatory Online Orientation for all students. A special orientation is provided for CCP students on April 19 at 9:30 in the career center. The link for the Career and College Promise orientation is also located on the at CPCC.edu.
Step 6: Get your CPCC Identification Card. Get your free Student ID card after you register. It will serve as your library card and may be used in the community for a variety of discounts. You will need to bring a photo ID in order to obtain a student ID card.

PROGRAM POLICIES & INFORMATION
Course Selection
- You can only select CPCC classes from the approved list of Career and College Promise Courses that can be found at: http://www.cpcc.edu/hsprograms/approved-academic-pathways
- There is no guarantee you will get the course(s) you want at the campus you want
- There are online courses available
- Attendance at CPCC classes is required
- You must follow CPCC’s academic calendar in addition to the CMS academic calendar. You will start school in the spring at least one week prior to the second semester of CMS. You might also be attending CPCC classes during CMS holidays, fall and spring break, and teacher workdays
- Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from CPCC. Butler students will not be given special consideration for a Butler parking spot because you are in the CPCC Program
- Students may not stay on the Butler campus during their CCP Block(s)
- The grade(s) you receive from courses taken while enrolled in the CCP Program will count twice (once as a college credit and once as a high school credit)
- Course(s) listed on your high school transcript will be on a 5-point scale (similar to Advanced Placement courses)
- Students may elect to take a course Pass/Fail in order to not affect their Grade Point Average
- Courses at CPCC are given a letter grade, this will be converted to a number grade using the chart below:
- NOTE: If you drop a course through your MyCollege account without notifying your Career Development Coordinator you will receive an "F" on your High School transcript, even though your CPCC transcript may reflect a "W". Butler High School cannot access student records at CPCC and therefore will not know when a course is added or dropped.
- There are many online course options at CPCC for students to take, navigating these courses on either Moodle or Blackboard may be new to you. Follow this link on instructions on how to access your online course.
- You MUST complete the online orientation for EACH online course you have enrolled in, if you do not complete this process your course will be automatically dropped from your schedule.
- CPCC tuition is waived for CMS CCP students (for all semesters, including summer)
- When available, students may receive a $50.00 Barnes & Noble gift card per courses to help cover the cost of textbooks (if course is dropped book card MUST be returned, if you have already used your card, you must go to Barnes and Noble and reload a new card to return to the CDC as soon as possible).
- Due to budgetary constraints, students may be responsible for the full cost of textbooks.
- The student will be responsible for any additional costs of enrollment when applicable (e.g. student fees, insurance, etc.). Check with your CDC for all information regarding potential cost.)
ENROLLMENT FOR NON-CMS STUDENTS
